Black mountain

Description:

Black Mountain, so named for its volcanic rock colour, is a must do hike for any Okanagan native with its beautiful views of Kelowna, Okanagan Lake, and surrounding areas.

The hike begins at a closed off service road off Pyman rd. Follow this road all the way up to the summit. The first half of the hike traces through an open field with little coverage, which eventually comes to the base of the mountain where tree cover resumes.

This hike is now closed off to the public after issues arose of trespassing on nearby property. Any attempt to access this hike is considered trespassing and is done at your own risk.

Directions:

This hike is approximately 20 minutes drive from downtown Kelowna.

  1. Coming from Kelowna, drive North on Highway 97 then turn right onto Highway 33 towards BigWhite.
  2. Drive 10.2km along Highway 33 until you see a turnoff for Pyman Rd on your left.
  3. Park your vehicle here near the highway. Do not attempt to drive past the cattle guard.
